Transportation is Getting Easier Globally. Here’s Why

The idea of traveling from one place to another is something that both excites and intimidates people. While there is certainly a distinct thrill in breaking out and discovering the unknown, the thought of traveling in obscure areas also brings up a lot of unpleasant images. Getting stuck for hours in bad weather, getting lost, being ripped off by crooked drivers, and other things come to mind when we think about traveling abroad.

But we can tell you with confidence that this is all changing radically for the better. There are, of course, some crooked cabbies still floating around (perhaps even in your hometown), but even this is being addressed with crackdowns on illegal and non-metered taxi companies in many countries. And as for the other forms of transportation, we’ve got good news across the board for you.

Air travel

Once airplanes started flying commercially, it was only a matter of time before the entire global population would start clamoring for a place on them. The convenience of air travel made increased competition – and therefore lower prices and better services – an obvious inevitability. And recent advancements have come to include every aspect of the business:

  • Getting to and from airports. Getting to the airport has long been considered a particular drag as no one likes hauling their luggage around in a mad rush to reach a flight on time. But now you can get to and from the airport easily, thanks to airport transfers. You can even get to out-of-the-way places with ease. Imagine transferring Savannah to Tybee island straight from the airport. You can do it with a transfer service for a reasonable cost.
  • Flying on budget airlines. Once considered a fringe option for college students, budget airlines now occupy an established place in the international airline market. Regardless of what part of the world you’re flying in, you can find good, reasonable budget options, and these airlines often have newer fleets than their national counterparts do. Just don’t overdo it on the luggage allowance and bring your own lunch, and you can fly for next to nothing in many places.
  • Finding good tickets at any time. Another thing that people historically worried about was buying tickets at very particular times and through a limited number of proprietary channels. But fortunately, along with the explosion of airlines has come a similar rise in the number of marketplaces available for ticket purchase. And you don’t have to get your tickets a year in advance to find reasonable prices. It is true that not all sites are equal, so you should definitely do your research before you buy. But many of them are very reliable and offer competitive prices.

Train travel

With airline travel having gotten so much easier recently, it might seem as if train travel is becoming a thing of the past. But this is hardly the case. Many people still love getting around by train, and for several good reasons:

  • It allows you to see the places you’re traveling through first-hand on the ground. There’s nothing like gliding through different landscapes in a cosy restaurant car as you while away the time with a pot of tea.
  • It takes you from and to more obscure places where planes don’t necessarily go. You might start a journey in a capital city, but what if you want to go to the countryside and then get off? Planes won’t necessarily do this. More and more train systems are taking people to historical landmarks, natural wonders, and other points of interest.
  • It provides a distinctly different type of social experience than planes do. Taking trains allows you to walk around, talk to people with less noise, and socialize casually in common areas.

Both national governments and private train companies realize this. And for this reason, many places are stepping up their train systems and providing tickets for lower and lower prices.

And more still

We could go on. But you get the point: The difficulties of traveling are quickly becoming a thing of the past. This doesn’t mean there won’t be any disruptions due to climate-related or geopolitical issues once in a while. But by and large, things are getting infinitely easier. And cheaper. So there’s no reason not to travel anymore – whether your preferred method be air, land, or even sea, the world awaits your next visit.
